Making a Meall of it is a book about the celebration of a lifetime’s climbing and wandering. It encompasses many (by no means all) iconic Scottish mountains but also adopts a different angle when hiking with his dog, celebrating near-misses from avalanches and lightning , other-worldly experiences and encounters with wildly-eccentric fellow hikers. The three final chapters recount an Easter hike along the Appalachian Trail, diary excerpts of a Kilimanjaro expedition and an odyssey through California to summit the Dardanelles Cone in the Sierra Nevada.
